How it works. The combatlog and stats

  • Combatlog, what? The combatlog is a plain text file that Wow can generate while you are playing. There you will have recorded every combat action any player performs near you. For example: every attack, spell cast, damage taken, buff gained, potion drinked and so on.
You can type "/combatlog" ingame, and the game will begin recording the data. If you type "/combatlog" again, it will stop recording.
The you can find the file with all the data in your world or warcraft folder/logs/ as "WoWCombatLog.txt"
It is recomended to begin recording data once you are IN the instance, and stop it before quiting, this way you will not have trash data.
Delete the "WoWCombatLog.txt" file before each raid or session, so you will have recorded only one session in the file.

  • Uploading combatlog . Once you have your combatlog file, you should compress it as a .zip file, and then after registering and you will be able to upload the log, with the uploading tool here. We recomend to upload your files one by one, typing the name that you will like to identify the session (p.e. "Naxx 6-12, patchwerk tries").
The you should see the uploading progress bar. The uploading may take some minutes depending on your connection speed, and the file size.
Once the file is uploaded, our server will need few minutes to parse your file, and store in our database.
And finally you will have the stats of your session ready, in the list of your user homepage.

Definitions

  • Try time: Try time is the time between the begining of a try till the end of it (wipe or boss down).
  • Activity: Activity is the time the player spend using his abilities during the try.
  • Dps. time: This is the actual time this player caused damage within the split. It is calculated considering every damage done and 5 seconds after it. If any damage is caused every 5 seconds or less, the dps time will be the same as the try time.
  • Act. Dps: Act. Dps is the damage done by the player in the split divided by his dps time in the split. This shows how many damage per second a player is doing while he is doing damage. This dps should be the same as the one you can see in the recount addon or wws.
  • Hps time: same as Dps time but applied to healing.
  • Act. Hps : same as Dps time but applied to healing.
  • 5SR: This is the time a player "is casting" during a fight. It is calculated counting each time a player cast and 5 seconds after it (This is known as the "Five second rule" or 5SR o FSR). This way a player knows how much time his mana regen is "while casting" and how much time it is not.
